Dorothy Parker

Resume
Razors pain you;
Rivers are damp;
Acids stain you;
And drugs cause cramp.
Guns aren't lawful;
Nooses give;
Gas smells awful;
You might as well live.

707-This piece displays life and lets you know that your here today and gone tomorrow. So live everyday like its your last. Pain is pain no matter how u measure it. I like this piece as well.

I agree with the comment above. Life is hard no matter what the circumstance, and some things never change. Take it as it is and get on with it. You can always take the easy way out but its up to you to make it better then that, and too get by no matter what the problem is.

This poem is about how hard life can be and you think that there is only one way out until you figure out how much trouble you have to go through to do that. my grandma Suicide is a permanent fix to a tempoary problem. i believe that because nothing lasts forever and life is too short already so why try to end it with rediculous violence on yourself. the world is violent already. This poem is short but has alot of power

She makes a good point. Killing yourself is not going to be pleasant in any shape or form. Besides, I don't think that it is necessary to kill yourself over a fixable problem.

All the ways we think of to kill ourselves, the less time there is to think about the reasons to live.

Of course, most of the ways to die are painful, it is the nature of death, an end to a means.

Yet, there isn't any deus ex machina to save the million who suffer from this infliction of wanting to end it through these means. This means that we have to be the ones to be able to understand and be there for those who suffer from this disease.

As Dorthy Parker put it so bluntly: You might as well live, is the soul of it is...Living is all we have, why would you want to give it up to death?

I like this poem. It brings levity to suicide, which most consider to be one of the darkest things that can happen to a life. Sort of saying "Death is just as unreliable as life, so why bother?" But with cleverness and humor.

i liked this poem. since dorothy parker sturggled with depression and suicide attempts i feel she could be writing this about her experiences. putting the word resume at the beginning of the poem could be seen as as interpretation as these are the lists of way she was thinking of committing suicide. also each one states a way, and a negative experience from it. this could represent that its really not worth it to die and instead to embrass life. -113

I like the post above from 121. Suicide does always seem to be an incredibly dark subject. And i can agree why it is. This poem makes a joke or pokes fun at the idea of suicide while still being able to have you feel the intensity of what suicide still really is. So very clever.

this poem is the argument for life in its most basic form. it brings common sense to the topic of suicide. there is no way to commit suicide that is not comfortable for the suicide victim. for everyway that one might commit suicide there is a logical way to keep from commiting suicide.

This is what life is all about the good and the bad. There is no easy button in life. But, Wouldn’t that be nice if there were. I found this poem to be interesting. Only because its states some of the negatives in our world and with out saying it you get the idea, that the person is talking about suicide.

This poem is the epitome of dark humor. While the words are powerful and simplistic, I think the title of the poem stands out the most for me. A resume is designed to clearly show your strengths and accomplishments. Most people ‘fluff’ their resumes, exaggerating to show how amazing they are. So essentially, resumes represent all of your strengths in a neat and concise manner. This is a beautiful title for this poem. Dorothy Parker showed us a raw, clear and simplistic portrayal of herself. Unfluffed and real, this poem is tragically beautiful.

I like this piece because it was a comical way to explain how pointless suicide is. In short words the author show how terrifying suicide can be compare to simply just living life and overcoming a tribulations.
